In this workshop you will learn basic sewing skills to enable you to work on projects at home.
We will cover a variety of simple sewing exercises on sample pieces building up a sample file for you to keep and use as a reference.
Threading your machine, winding and inserting a bobbin
Needles and Feet
Measuring and pattern reading
Cutting and pining
Straight seams, seam allowances and seam finishes
Mastering corners and curves
Inserting a zip
Attaching a waist band
Adding a pocket
Working with bias binding
Working with shirring elastic
Introduction to jersey fabrics
Working with batting
You will then design a tote bag or cushion cover using the skills you have learnt to make a zipped or button down cushion cover or a zipped or boxy tote bag.
All materials, equipment, and sewing machines are provided. Refreshments will be available throughout the day, you can either bring a packed lunch or order from The Foxlowe Café.
