This traditional patchwork embroidery dates back to the 17th Century and we will be working with the hexagon template, although most shapes will work. This decorative repetitive shape enables you to develop colourways with plain and patterned cotton fabrics.
This technique encouraged the re-use of old garments as decorative keepsakes and many historical pieces have old postcards and letters that reveal the history and past lives of those who made the work.
You will cut your own paper templates using magazine pages before covering the paper shapes in fabric, then planning your colour combinations before sewing all the hexagon shapes together by hand; this is easy for a beginner to sewing.
You can make mats, memory blankets, book covers or a simple decorative piece to be framed.
All materials provided- but if you want to create a special memory piece, please bring your own fabrics too.
